Magdalena Wertz was born 6 February 1822, probably in Holmes County, Ohio; daughter of Andrew Wertz and Magdalena Berkey; granddaughter of John Cunrad and Mary Wertz; great granddaughter of Hans Jacob and Anna Barbara Hoff Wurtz.
Andrew Wertz was born 2 May 1774 in Quincy twp., Franklin County, PA; married about 1801, probably in Franklin Co., PA to Magdalena Berkey, born 1 January 1779 in Franklin Co., PA.
We believe that Andrew and Magdalena Wertz moved to Ohio very early in their marriage, probably before 1810, and that most if not all of their children were born in Holmes County, Ohio.
They are listed on the 1830 Census in Holmes County, but were probably there much earlier.
They had twelve children, and Magdalena was their eleventh child and youngest daughter.
Magdalena Wertz married on 25 January 1842 in Holmes County, Ohio to Jacob Hoselton, Hasselton, or Hostleton. Their first two children, Cynthia "Syrila" and John, were born in Ohio. Then between 1844 and 1849 this family moved to Scott County, Iowa were the rest of their thirteen children were born. Jacob is listed as a farmer on the 1850, 1860, 1870, and 1880 Census records.
In 1880, his father, Christian Hoselton, is listed in their household. These records read as follows:
