An old photograph was recently located in an Ohio Antique Store, by a Good Samaritan who also found our Wertz website and contacted us.
On the back of this photo is written:
"July 30, 1889 my address below, C. Wertz
Conrad Wertz
New Harrisburg
Carroll County, Ohio"
Here is the photo of Conrad Wertz:
Our Good Samaritan then looked at the 1900 Carroll County, Ohio Census, and found:
"Conrad Wertz, born Oct. 1819, PA
wife Hannah Wertz, born Sept. 1822, PA
step-daughter-in-law, Mary E. Arnold, born Sept. 1849, Ohio."
Our family records show "Conrad Wertz, born 2 October 1819, Quincy twp., Franklin County, PA; son of Conrad Wertz, 1770-1829/30, and Anna Mary Cook, 1775-1867." The 1915 Wertz chart shows this Conrad Wertz, born 1819, as "moved to Ohio" and married to "Fannie Bush", with five children: Alonzo Wertz; Mary Ellen Bates; Amanda Eisenzimmer; Rose Barr; and Lee Wertz.
There are NO dates for any of these five children, or for their mother.
Does anyone have more information on this family? This Conrad Wertz was a brother of my own 2nd great grandmother, Martha Wertz Croft, 1816-1903, so I would very much like to know more about their family and descendants.
Is wife Hannah the same person as "Fannie Bush" on the chart? Or did Conrad marry twice?
Who was the husband of Mary E. Arnold?
What happened to the five children of Conrad and Fannie Bush Wertz? I could not find any of them on the 1880 Census.
Where were they living then? And, where were they living in 1900?
Are there any descendants still alive today?
Please send any information on this family to me at: Choppin.Carolyn@usa.net
