Records found by Bill Parkin from the cemeteries around Hanover, York Co., PA on a recent visit there, added to the 1850 Census records collected by Bob Messersmith, and the 1880 census now at our FHC, have contributed to a much better identification of the grandchildren of Marcus "Marx" and Sarah Marschall Wortz.
Our records indicated that Marcus Worst had died 27 October 1831, age 85 years, and was buried at the Saint Matthew's Lutheran Church at Hanover, York County, PA. When Bill Parkin visited the St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, which is still located about two blocks from the town square, he learned that some time ago the church had removed the associated cemetery, and taken the remains to Mt. Olivet Cemetery, which is about the 800 block of Baltimore Avenue in Hanover. However the individual gravestones were not transported, but rather a mass monument was erected for all the identifiable individuals. There is also a memorial record in the Church building, dated up to 1850. However, Bill found that Marcus Worst name was not on this memorial record, but his son Henry was listed along with Henry's wife, Elizabeth Smith.
Next Bill visited the Mt. Olivet Cemetery, and although he never found the mass monument for those first buried at Saint Matthew's, he did find quite a number of tombstones for the descendants of Marcus and Sarah Worst. These included:
"David Wortz, son of Jacob and Julian Wortz, died 27 May 1870, age 60 y, 5 m, 29d."
"Rebecca C., wife of David Wortz, died 14 May 1905, age 83 y, 8m, 19d."
"Henry Jacob, son of David & Rebecca C. Wortz, 1 Feb 1843 8 Jan 1922."
"Clara R., daughter of David & Rebecca C. Wortz, 5 Jan. 1852 20 Feb. 1873"
"Anna E., daughter of David & Rebecca C. Wortz, 10 Nov. 1851 25 April 1886."
"Jacob Wortz, died 5 Sept. 1856, age ?8y, 10m, 18d."
"Juliane, wife of Jacob Wortz, died 13 Nov. 1857, age 71y, 2m, ?9days."
located behind Juliane's tombstone are her parents:
"Henry DeWald, 10 April 1735 16 April 1817, 84y, 6 d."
and "Mary Catherine, 8 August 1757 2 Oct. 1850, 93y, 1 m, ?d."
"Marcus Wortz, died 6 January 1867, age 87y, 12d."
"Elizabeth Wortz, died 16 May 1882, age 82y, 2m, 1 d."
"Eliza Ann Wortz, wife of Michael Bushey, died 15 June 1913, age 94y, 10m, 12d."
"Louisa E. Wortz, wife of Dr. David Diller, 11 July 1837 13 May 1924."
"Dr. David Diller, 18 Jan. 1836 5 March 1889, 53y, 1 m, 17d."
"Ira D. A. Diller, MD, 11 April 1873 12 July 1903."

This is obviously the daughter and widow of Marcus Wortz Jr., 1777/9-1867, and her family.
"Hamilton, Adams Co., PA; page 217B: "W.G. Wortz, age 40, farmer; wife Mattie, age 37; daughter Minnie Wortz, age 15; son Harry L. Wortz, age 12; daughter Alice, age 7; and daughter Gertrude Wortz, age 5; all born PA."
Could this be the George W., age 9 in 1850, son of Marcus and Elizabeth Wortz??
