In Newsletter #42, page 8, we reported the information that Joanne Wagner of Salisbury, NC had on her great grandmother, Rebecca Jane Wertz Bruch, 1853-1924, of Milton, PA. Joanne recently located Rebecca's death certificate, which states that her father was George Wertz and her mother was Anna Resler (sp??). This fits with our questiment in Newsletter #42 that Rebecca was a daughter of the George Wert(z), 1803-1878, and his 3rd wife, Ann or Anna, whose maiden surname we now also know.
Another known child of this George Wert(z) was Peter Wert(z), a.1833/36-1903, also of Milton, PA. Peter is believed to be a son of George's first wife, Christina Kulp or Kolp. Peter and his wife Phoebe Wert(z) had seven known children: George; Minnie; Gertrude m. William J. Derr; Margaret; Mary Alice; Emma J.; and James.
This family is recorded on the 1880 Census in Turbot, Northumberland Co., PA; page 431D: "Peter Wertz, age 44, born PA, laborer, both parents born PA; wife Phoebe, age 42, born PA, both parents born PA; son George Wertz, age 23, born PA, works at Planing Mill; daughter Alice Wertz, age 18, born PA, seamstress; daughter Minnie Wertz, age 14, born PA, at school; daughter Gertrude Wertz, age 8, born PA; and daughter Maggie Wertz, age 5, born PA."
This record adds some ages and thus approximate birth years to most of the members of this family. Does anyone else have more records of them?
This George Wert(z) is believed to have had 16 children, who were the other 14? Does anyone have a probate or obituary record for this George Wert(z), who died in 1878, probably in Northampton, Snyder or Dauphin County, PA.?
