Wanda Smith of Auburn, Indiana has located the estate papers of Henry Flood, who died 3 January 1795 in Franklin County, PA. Henry was the husband of Anna Margaretha Wertz, 1740-1800+, daughter of emigrant Hans Jacob Wurtz and Anna Barbara Hoff/Huff. Henry's estate papers name four children: Mary, Catherine, Henry, and Elizabeth. A Henry Flood is listed on the 1786 tax list in Washington Twp., Franklin Co., PA. And a Henry Flood is listed on the 1790 Census in Washington County, Maryland. His household contains 1 male over 16, 1 male under 16, and three females. The 1800 Census lists a Margaret Flood, age over 45, in Washington Twp., Franklin Co., PA, with two females ages 16 to 26, and 1 female under 10. (see also Newsletter #27, page 1)
IF all of these records are for our Henry and Margaretha Wertz Flood family, then is would seem likely that they had four surviving children: son Henry born between 1774 and 1790; daughters Mary and Catherine born before 1784; and daughter Elizabeth born after 1790, and probably before or just after her father died in January 1795.
There is also a Michael Flood listed in the Washington County, Maryland 1790 Census, with 1 male over 16, and 1 female in his household.
Is Michael related to Henry Flood? How??
Does anyone have any records of these Flood children, whom they married, etc.?
Since at least some of Henry's children were apparently still minors when he died in 1795, has anyone checked the Franklin County, PA Orphan's Court records to see if guardians were named for them, if their ages are given, etc.?
Are any of Margaret's Wertz siblings or cousins named?
