Linda Lee of Garden Grove, CA (dsurflee101@yahoo.com) and her sister Janna Wertz are searching for the missing pieces to connect them to our Wertz family tree. Their father, David Wertz, was a son of Harold Eugene Wertz, who was born 5 Nov. 1903 in Dennison, Texas.
Their cousin, Rick Wertz of Anaheim, CA says that this Harold Eugene Wertz was a son of Lewis Wertz and Lura Stoutenburg; and a grandson of Simon Ely Wertz and Mary Elizabeth Stoutenburg, who according to our Wertz charts was born 17 June 1846 in Henry Co., Illinois; son of John Wertz and Rebecca Reed. This family is recorded on pages 111 to 116 in our Wertz Book.
The 1880 Census of Denison, Grayson Co., Texas records this family on page 169A: "Simon E. Wertz, age 34, born PA, carpenter, both parents born PA; wife Mary E., age 35, born NY, both parents born NY; son Louis Wertz, age 10, born Illinois, at school; daughter Phoebe G. Wertz, age 8, born Illinois, at school; son John Wertz, age 6, born Illinois; and son Hubbard Wertz, age 3, born Texas."
